Billy Hunt was kind enough to point Clarence Green and company my way when he was unavailable to photograph
The Downbeat Project's's gig at
The Gravity Lounge back in 01.24.
Downbeat was kind enough to ask me back to photograph their monthly gig at
Maya on 02.06.
Photographing shows--for me at least--can be a real hit or miss (in pure entertainment value), because it is easy to fall in to the same old same old.
So, I always try to mix it up: available light, clamping strobes to pipes, being stupid and having a light on a stand in a crowed backstage room where everyone is drinking and hyper, things like that.
Oh, and by the way Clarence is one of the nicest guys you will ever met, and has a magnetic stage presence to boot . . . not to mention everyone else in the band: Zack Blatter, Gerald Soriano, Rob Hubbard, Bill Cardine; all super nice guys and outstanding musicians. Which of course made it a blast to photograph them: they are definitively making their music out of pure love, and it shows.
Anyway, the guys are looking to take their scene to the next level, and I think I made some images that should help them as much as pictures can help with that sort of thing.
